About me
I am a Faculty member at the Open University of Israel and a Speech and Language Pathologist. My clinical work with children with developmental and acquired language and communication difficulties inspired me to study the interplay of language and cognition. My main research goal is to understand how language shapes the way we think and how our thinking affects the language we speak. I explored this question in bilingual and monolingual speakers during my Post-doc at Prof. Tamar Gollan's bilingualism lab at the University of California, San Diego. I also examined it in individuals with attention deficits (ADHD). Feel free to continue reading about my research, here below... |
In my PhD, I examined the way people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorders (ADHD) process language and found strong associations between the ability to control the attention system (e.g., pay attention to one aspect of a stimulus and ignore other aspects) and language control (e.g., focusing on one meaning of a word and ignore its other meaning).
Another aspect of my research focuses on a different perspective of the same question. That is, how linguistic experience, especially using several languages (multilingualism) affects cognitive abilities. As a multilingual (Hebrew, English, Russian and sign-language) and as a former sign language translator, I find this topic fascinating.
